International Horn Competition of America

The International Horn Competition of America recently became aware of the horrible, abhorrent, and appalling crimes of an individual who had historical association with the competition. The crimes attributed to Elliott Higgins are extremely shocking to all concerned. All those associated with the IHCA share the strongest possible condemnation of his behavior and are cooperating with investigators in every way possible to serve ongoing aspects of the investigation.

About Home Page

The International Horn Competition of America is a biennial solo horn competition open to Professional and University level horn performers of all nationalities.  The goal of the competition is to advance the horn as a solo instrument, broaden the literature composed for it, elevate soloist performance standards, provide an opportunity for hornists to gain constructive and positive feedback, and support and promote excellence in horn playing in the preferred style of the contestant.

The four day event includes an opening clinic with the International Horn Competition of America’s adjudicators and its Board of Advisors, rehearsals with collaborative pianists, a first round, semi-final round, and final round of the competition, and an awards ceremony.

Each competition takes place at a different geographical location in the United States.  The 2022 Competition was held in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at the University of Alabama.

IHCA 2021 Postponed 1 Year

August 7, 2021

In consideration of evolving international health concerns, ongoing uncertainty about travel restrictions and availability, and the possible personal and professional demands on potential competitors, the biennial International Horn Competition of America, originally scheduled for 2021, will be postponed until 2022.  We wish for everyone in the greater horn playing community to remain safe and well and carefully plan their preparation for a wonderful experience at IHCA 2022.
