Just like the world cup, the International Horn Competition of America brings together driven competitors from across the globe for championship level performance. Representatives of your hometowns and universities, you are what makes IHCA special. While you're here, we not only expect you to showcase your own talents, but make personal connections with people. That's our leaders, adjudicators, clinicians, exhibitors, and most of all: each other.

 

To help you accomplish just that, we’ve created this scavenger hunt highlighting everything that sets IHCA apart as the ultimate growth and development experience. Good luck!

how it works

Throughout the competition, you can accumulate points for completing a specific set of tasks. These tasks range from attending scheduled events or performances, to sharing posts on social media. For several in-person tasks, you can earn IHCA 2026 Trading Cards, which are limited in supply and yours to keep!

 

These trading cards feature our adjudicators, Board of Directors, select exhibitors, and other conference personnel. Ask around, you never know who has one! Trading cards will not be given to you unless you request them directly as part of the scavenger hunt. You may only collect one of each specific trading card, no duplicates.

Your total number of points will be the sum of your trading cards and social media interactions. For all social media tasks (Instagram, Facebook), share it to your story and tag us @IHCAmerica to be eligible to receive points.​​

the tasks

  • Follow us on Instagram (@IHCAmerica), like on Facebook, and subscribe to our YouTube channel. 1 point each.

  • Get your gifted copy of "Peace on the Horizon" by Randall E. Faust signed by the composer (see Faust Music in CAC 155) and Dr. John McGuire (IHCA Assistant Director)

  • Pose for a photo and share on socials. 1 point for each:

    • At the IHCA banner outside Bedell Hall​ (CAC Atrium)

    • Recreate the headshot of an adjudicator, board member, or past winner (as seen in this folder). Make sure to include the original headshot image in your post!

    • Your favorite practice spot on campus

  • Visit David Smalley Custom Horns in CAC 155 and try one of his horns! Share a photo of this experience on socials and tag us (@IHCAmerica). 1 point.

  • Attend Yamaha Presentation: Working in the Music Industry (RCC120). 1 point.

  • Attend the Q&A sessions on Friday & Saturday. 1 point for each:

    • Friday, 3:00pm: Liz Freimuth & Thomas Jostlein (RCC120)​

    • Friday, 7:00pm: Denise Tryon & Karl Pituch (RCC120)

    • Saturday, 9:00am: IHCA Board of Directors (RCC120)

    • Saturday, 11:00am: Marty Hackleman and Karl Pituch (RCC120)

  • Attend preliminary round feedback session, Saturday at 7pm. 1 point for attendance.

    • PRO: CAC Atrium

    • UNI: RCC120

  • All other tasks will be posted on our social stories, so turn on your notifications!

winners & announcement

The winners of the scavenger hunt will be the three contestants with the most accumulated points during the competition. All contestants must fill out the form linked below by 12 noon on Sunday, recording what tasks you have completed and the number of trading cards collected. We will contact the winner(s) to validate their points total, and their name will be announced during the IHCA Awards Ceremony.​ Must be present to win.
